About Paws & Claws
Disappointed by this gap in the local market, Christy’s mind began to wonder. On a night out with girlfriends, discussing their futures over a glass of wine, Christy mentioned that since Tucker came into her life, she now hoped to somehow work with animals one day. Describing her vision for branding top-quality local pet care to Greenville, another friend mentioned that Paws & Claws was up for sale, and serendipity ensued. That’s right, as fate would have it, it was around when Christy was ready to act that the founders of Paws & Claws were looking to sell their business.
At the time, Christy was nearly ten years into a successful and rewarding career as a chemist for C.H. Patrick in the textile chemical division. As textile jobs were moving overseas, she says she began to see the writing on the wall. This was an opportunity that couldn’t be missed, and the rest is history.
The Jordals took ownership in 2005. They hit the ground running, pouring their heart into their mission of spoiling Greenville’s dogs with brilliant grooming, curated toys and treats, and conscientious staff. While JJ kept his day job as sales manager at Bradshaw Acura, he has still been deeply involved with decision making and the philosophy and vision behind the brand – to be the preferred pet boutique, grooming salon, and nutrition center for all of South Carolina upstate’s dogs and their families.
Nowadays, Paws & Claws has loyal customers across the state and across state lines who drive the distance to let their dogs belly up to the bone bar for high-quality, all-natural treats, or to be pampered by certified groomers. By working hard to listen to what customers want and pets need, Paws & Claws has developed a reputation for being the best place to bring your dog. The do-it-yourself dog wash is another popular feature, with elevated tubs, entry ramps, and all the supplies needed to get Fido fresh and clean. In 2008, their momentum grew as they opened the Capers location on Augusta Rd. And in 2018, they opened a second location beside Crosswind Animal Hospital on Verdae Blvd.
Of course, Christy and JJ’s passion for pets extends beyond offering great products. They’ve also been active in helping foster a sense of community among pet owners by being regular participants in fundraisers for the Greenville Humane Society and Greenville Animal Care as well as sponsoring the Canine F.E.T.C.H Unit – the resident therapy dogs at GHS Children’s Hospital.
